We just got back from the Esthetics Congress in Long Beach (September 2011)
We had a great time, learned a lot and saw some pretty entertaining stuff.
We had a GREAT dinner at Sir Winston's abord the Queen Mary, toured a Russian submarine and
found a great new French restaurant just a block from our hotel.
We'll be including many of the things we learn within the next couple of weeks.

How long is the program?

350 hours or about 10 1/2 weeks

except the state license & testing fees.

Typically, we ONLY take about 20 - 22 esthetician students each year.
(We're not trying to train all of the estheticians in Alaska, just the best ones!)

This is what people think about our training.

Meilyn Urling had this to say: Sigel at MetrOasis® is on the cutting edge of what is out there for estheticians to learn.  Each week at school we were able to master a new technique that would bring hundreds of dollars to wherever we decide to work.

Sigel and Sue encourage all of us to find our niche in the community of estheticians or to break free of conventional thought and branch out elsewhere in the field of esthetics.
I did my homework before committing to a school and found that MetrOasis® had the best credentials. Though, I had no idea  how fortunate I am to have met the nicest,
genuinely caring people like the Shroys.

I highly recommend MetrOasis® for anyone who is interested in becoming a quality esthetician.

Bri (MetrOasis grad)
Dear Prospective Students,

I want to encourage you to explore what MetrOasis has to offer its students.
It’s an awesome program that provides you with all the education, motivation, and hands-on experience you will need to accomplish your goal of becoming an esthetician.
I was very anxious about changing careers. I knew I wasn’t happy in my current career as an educator and desired a change, but I didn’t know how to take that first step.
I have always loved esthetics and have always had an inward calling towards helping others become more beautiful (inside and out).  However, I had a really hard time taking the step that would get me there. I kept thinking that it was too late for me, and that I was stuck in the career path I had chosen.

Luckily, one day I happened upon MetrOasis.com. I was so impressed with all the opportunities to learn different modalities and machines that I was intrigued to learn more. I spent the next few days researching other programs in Alaska and realized that there were none comparable. However, the reason I finally decided to chase my passion in esthetics was when I took the step to take an interview with Sue and Sigel. Upon meeting them, they immediately made me feel welcomed and excited about the program. I definitely have to say they excited my passion with their own enthusiasm for esthetics. I decided to start the June program and am so fortunate I did.

The program was both intellectually stimulating (something that was very important to me) and incredibly fun.  I often referred to my experience as my “beauty summer camp”.
I learned so much about how to heal and treat skin, how to make people feel relaxed and beautiful, and I was even taught how to run a salon or spa of my own someday (which is my current career plan). I also very much enjoyed working and learning with my fellow students and have definitely made life-long friends and awesome esthetic connections.

In summary, I can’t say enough about how wonderful the esthetics program is at MetrOasis. I hope that you explore your dreams and can make it a reality like I have!! Good luck to you on your successes.  Thank you Sue and Sigel,
Bri Nejad

There's a few reasons for this.

#1. Our overhead is higher because we ACTUALLY teach you.

#2. The other schools leave you sitting at a table all day to teach yourself

while they book clients.

#3. We provide you with the best esthetician student kit in the United States!

Think we're kidding?

Check these out!

These are some of the reviews for the other schools.

Debra (MetrOasis grad)
Debra Laflen had this to say: I attended MetrOasis for my esthetician training this past winter.   I had originally enrolled in @%#&!*(#.  The students graduate from there with a book and a lab coat.  I know two students who have graduated from there in the past year that failed the state board twice, and still do not feel prepared going back for the third time.
I decided to come to MetrOasis instead, after a conversation with one of @%#&!*(#'s students. She told me that she got a very poor education, basically just what she gained from the book, and that she wished she had gone to MetrOasis instead.

So I looked at MetrOasis on-line, came for an interview and was accepted.  (Thank you, God!!).  Once there, I quickly realized that I was being taught by the VERY best.
Sigel and Sue were as concerned about my success as I was.  They taught me, encouraged me, supported me, and educated me far beyond just esthetics.  I learned business strategies, methods of communication, and methods of client retention. They answered my many questions, and spurred me on to learn more than just the basics. I learned what was in the book, but also learned from Sigel and Sue's life experiences.

I was given practical reviews for the state board test, as well as numerous mock state board written exams.  My education will continue after our state board exams, for as long as I like.  When I graduated, I had bags and cases loaded with products, tools, brushes, bowls, and all the disposables I could possibly need to get started.  I left with a multi-purpose machine (steamer, high frequency, electric brush, vacuum, sprayer, galvanic and iontophoreses) and felt very qualified to use it, long before I graduated.

When I took the state board exam in April, I felt as confident and prepared as I possibly could have been. I heard horror stories about the other schools.  There were several people there who were repeating the exam, including at least one instructor.  One student told me that whenever she had a question, her instructors would tell her either that they did not know the answer, or did not have time to answer her question. I overheard multiple wrong answers during my practical exam, and it was obvious that I was the best prepared there.

Once again, thanks to Sigel and Sue.

I believe the proof of the success of MetrOasis, and Sigel and Sue, lies in my test scores.
In a state where the failure rate for esthetician state boards is alarmingly high, I scored 93 % on the written exam, 98 % on one practical, and 99% on the other three practicals. I give most of the credit of that to Sigel and Sue.  Yes, I studied hard.  Yes, I practiced over and over.  But without their enthusiasm, ongoing support and encouragement, it would have been much more difficult, and not nearly as much fun.

I cannot thank them enough.

Do not even think of going to school anywhere else if you want to succeed in this business. NO ONE ELSE will give you what MetrOasis gives you:  A wonderful education, preparation for the life ahead, and a solid foundation for your new career.

I truly love these people.

Debra Laflen, RN, Licensed Esthetician

                      Karen (MetrOasis grad)
Karen Shealy had this to say: "Traveling a long distance from my family to learn a new career was difficult, until I found my place in the esthetician program at MetrOasis Advanced Training Center.

Sigel and Sue were great instructors, as well as very helpful and friendly from my first day to my last.  They take great pride in helping their students learn as much as possible and find success in showing others how to be successful.

I highly recommend MetrOasis to anyone seeking a quality education that concentrates on the latest technologies and opportunities in a fun and interactive atmosphere."

Karen Shealy, Homer Alaska

What do you get at the other place?

Yep. THAT'S it!

So, while you're trying to figure out how much extra

you're going to pay to get all the additional stuff

you need to be a successful esthetician,

compare that amount with the difference

in price for your student kit.

Do you offer financial aid?

We accept Alaska Student Loans and we have payment plans.
We do not accept Federal Title IV funds like FAFSA.

What is your class schedule?

Wednesday                                12 - 6
Saturday                                     9 - 4

When are your new class start dates?

New Class Start Dates

How do I sign up for classes?

#1.
You must pass our online entrance exam - here.
#2. You must be at least 18 years old at the start of class.
#3. You must have a completed High School diploma or GED.
#4. You pass an interview with the director & administrator.
#5. You must have a signed contract and financing in place
30 days prior to your class start date.

Where do I find out about Alaska Student Loans?

Here
Notice, the state moves this page ALL the time so be patient and creative!

Can I transfer to your school from another school?

No. We don't typically accept transfer students.
We must teach our students in just 350 hours to pass the same national exam that students from schools
with 650 to 1200 hours must pass. If you've already wasted some of this time in another school,
it would be too difficult for you to catch up. Also, it would be extremely difficult and expensive
to purchase your student kit on your own.)

I emailed you and asked about your program but you didn't respond.

There's probably a reason. We respond to ALMOST everybody, but...

Once in a while, we mess up and an email gets by us.
More frequentlythough, between 40 and 50 times a year we have
someone who skips over this entire
page without reading a single thing,
finds our email address at the bottom of the page,
and then emails
us asking us to send them all the information
contained on this page, like
"How long is the program?" (9 boxes up),
and "How much does the program cost?"
(8 boxs up), and "When is your next class?" (4 boxes up),

that they just didn't read...

We used to fall for this time-wasting
trick and we would
copy this information and email it.
Again, they didn't read anything.

Now, we just ignore them!

? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Did you know that most esthetics schools in Alaska have a severe lack of equipment for you to train on?

Did you know, that many esthetics schools in Alaska provide you with a text book... That's it!
(The really advanced ones also give you a workbook. WOW!)

Did you know, that you could get stuck at a school that has you sitting around rubbing goo on a plastic
manikin face for your facial training?

Do you really want to sit around on a couch reading your text book for thousands of dollars,
just to flunk the state board exam over and over?

     1. Before you sign up for any program, ask to see the equipment you will be training on.
         Do they even have any?

     2. Ask to see their pass/fail stats. (Yes, they DO have them, the board of barbers and hairdressers
         provides them!)

     3. Ask to see their placement rates. (Yes, they DO have them, the Commission on PostSecondary Education
can provide them for you if the school refuses to.)

     4. Ask to see the student kit they provide. Do they even have one?

     5. Ask to see the facial machine they include with their program. WHAT?
They don't do that? (I know!)

     6. Check their price and see what you REALLY get for your money?

     7. Call a couple places you're interested in working and see who THEY would suggest!

          new!
      8. Check out their student kit! It's totally ridiculous. Think I'm kidding? Ask to see it. THIS is what our Esto Kit looks like.

In some schools THIS (or a chair) will be your instructor.
You will sit here and teach yourself esthetics out of the
text book. When you DO have an instructor, they will
stop teaching you whenever a "walk-in" client comes in.
(This is illegal!)

You won't train on beauty equipment, because they don't
have any. (Think I'm kidding? ASK to see what you'll
train on.)

You won't get to keep any equipment as part of your
student kit. (ASK to see the equipment you keep!)

You will either work only on each other or on a manikin instead of working on clients. Most schools have a very
limited esthetics clientele.

They have a chair, a table, and... uh...?

So do you want to pay for a REALLY expensive couch
rental for a couple of months...
or do you want to really learn the
art and science of esthetics?

At MetrOasis®, Sigel and Sue will be your instructors.

Sigel is a licensed hairdresser, a licensed esthetician, and a licensed instructor and has done platform work and advanced classes in
Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada.

Sigel is also a an NCEA member, and holds a level 3 NCFE in the U.K., a beauty technician diploma
(with distinction) in makeup and skin care from
Stonebridge College, in England.

Sigel also received training from Emmy Award winner Dina Ousley
in airbrush makeup in Hollywood.

Sigel has also developed the formulations for several hair
care and skin care product lines.

We have a regular theory class once a day,
Tuesdays through Fridays,
and individualized classes on various other days
where we teach you different techiques and how to use various
beauty machines.

Sigel has been in the beauty industry since 1979
and will teach you multi-function machines,
ultrasonic deconstruction and sonophoresis,
microcurrent, galvanic iontophoresis and disincrustation,
RF, electrolysis, digital microscope, photon therapy and photorejuvenation, diamond microdermabrasion, and more.

Sigel travels internationally each year to learn from the masters
to bring you the best and most effective techniques and products available and can teach you techniques and products the other schools haven't even heard of!

Sue is a licensed hairdresser, licensed esthetician and a licensed instructor and has received advanced training in the United States, France & Spain and is an amazing administrator.

Not just good, not just really good, buy
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

Sue has a delightful personality and is amazingly nice.

Sue received training from Emmy Award winner Dina Ousley
in airbrush makeup in Hollywood, microcurrent training in France, and RF training in Spain. She also has received training in manual lymphatic drainage massage in California.

Sue has a Bachelors degree from Seattle Pacific University in fine art and as she like to tell it... "She married her hairdresser".

Sue has been involved in the beauty industry since 1986 and in Alaska since 1992.

Sue is with Sigel as he travels internationally each year to learn from the masters to bring you the best and most effective techniques and products available and can teach you techniques and products the other schools haven't even heard of!

So... why would you even consider going to another school?

How much sleep are you getting?
Is it enough?

"Layered Learning Concept"

Our students are so successful because we use the "layered learning concept" where the materials
needed to pass the state board exam, and indeed, to be successful in a salon / spa
are presented several times, several ways, and in several mediums. It works!

Theory - Skill Goals - Clinic Floor - Internet Portal - Individual Study

We have "theory" nearly every day,
which is the book work portion of our program which helps
prepare you for your career and the state board exam.

We also have a "weekly skill goal" which is the hands on teaching portion of our program
which helps prepare you for your career and your real life experience in a salon or spa.
The schedule of skill goals can be seen here.

The "clinic floor" is where our students perform esthetic services for our clients.

We have materials for our students available on the Internet at the top of this page.
Our students are given a password and a log-on name so that they can access this information.

Our students are given study materials that they can study at school, at home, anywhere they like.

We use several educational resources as part of our curriculum.
Below you will see some of the materials we use.

We use several types of equipment as part of our curriculum.
